This smaller event is a real village celebration and the locals come out to play. Over twenty cellars in Abaújszántó open their doors to guests and bring events to this small town at the northern end of the Tokaj Wine Region. Probably the most highly regarded winery here is the first biodynamic winery for miles around, Márta Wille Baumkauff’s Pendits.

What to expect other than wine? Concerts at the sports field, an impressive row of “cauldron cannons” where the council chefs and dinner ladies cook up large quantities of traditional fare and the small Abaúji market with a variety of products, including cheeses and jams.

Plus a new event from the more prestigious wineries, Wine Meeting, Borudvar with jazz and guitar music, architect Gábor Erhardt talk, winemakers presenting themselves and their wines, and a chocolate talk and tasting “From bean to block”. An interesting new direction aimed at the more disccerning wine lovers to complement the village festival.
