Celebration of the first Incredible Edible planting

, , ,

What a wonderful Saturday!

Stone Soup at the market in the morning to build – and feed – the community, then on to Sárospatak Gallery for planting and painting, music and mushrooms, bikes and baskets, ceramics and slackline, cheese and cheer, horses and homemade apple juice. Joy and generations. People happy to be celebrating spring and the start of the edible project together. Singing them into creation.

The plants? Mainly herbs and we replanted many of the sunny daisies too. Basil, bear garlic, calendula, chervil, fennel, horseradish, houseleek, lemon balm, lovage, several mints, marjoram, nettle, oregano, rhubarb, rosemary, sage, tarragon, thyme, violet, yarrow plus a couple of guests: blackcurrants, chives, Jerusalem artichokes, sorrel and strawberries. All were generously donated from our group of friends, plant sellers and market goers, and the Saint Elizabeth House who gave have given lots of support plus mints and lemon balm, rosemary cuttings and sage seedlings. A very warm thank you to you all for your generosity of plants and time.

These herbs, fruits and veggies are free for anyone to pick. All we ask is that you pick carefully so the plant can continue to thrive. And feel free to do some weeding and watering!

The Activities? A classy trip around Sárospatak with the horse and cart thanks to Kornél and co.

Buzavirág Foundation also joined us bringing their wonderful baskets, ceramics and rugs

and magical music :)

Thanks. To so many people! This really was a co-production of gardeners and bakers, artists and musicians, nature lovers and bike enthusiasts. To seedling specialist at the market István for the basil plant, the printers who gave paper for drawing, And to people like Bettike who only heard about it on the Saturday morning and arrived with a bursting box of wonderfully healthy plants like mints and oregano with a bonus violet! Thanks to Bea and Gábor at the Cultural House and Gallery for their openness, support and enthusiasm. And to Hegyalja TV for joining us and the report.

What’s next? Well, the following day, the extra plants were planted at dear Emőke’s Margaréta Wholefood Shop, so our second Incredible Edible already exists! Where will the third be?

How can you help? Talk about and share the project, walk around with open eyes to plan your own plantings (What if there’s an apple tree here? An almond tree there?) and root cuttings any plants you prune so in autumn we’ll have lots of plants to plant out.
