Historically the intellectual and power centre of the Tokaj wine region, the town of Sárospatak has long organised the Whit festivities to celebrate Saint Elizabeth of Hungary. Though the traditional procession around the town will not be held in 2015, the town is sure to come alive with the children’s folk dance gathering (23rd) and the re-enactment of the 1458 Botkő Battle by the Zemplén Equestrian Society (23-24th) which sees hoardes of costumed soldiers occupy the Castle grounds for a weekend of horsemenship, fairs and traditional clothes and weapons. A spectacular show in an amazing setting!

Celebration of Saint Elizabeth’s Day takes place at the Basilica on Monday 25th, the day the 5-day pilgrimage to Kosice begins.
