A dynamic group young people of the picturesque village of Hercegkút, Trautsons, (a fun play on the Swabian name of their village Trautsohndorf) have various wine events based around the two village cellar rows – at either end of hte village. This is the same weekend as the village day – so many who come (or parents, grandparents) from the delightful village of Hercegkút near Sárospatak gather together.

The celebrations will be held at the World Heritage site, the Kőporosi Cellar Row, in the cute village of Hercegkút – and you can be sure of a good local party. It’s definitely an opportunity for children and grandchildren of the village to come back, to strengthen their connections with each other, their families and the land in this tight-knit Swabian community. Plenty of interesting foods to go with good wines.

Various wineries will be opening their cellar doors so you can taste their wines and take a peak at the amazing cellars from the inside. It’s a great opportunity to explore Hungary’s answer to the Shire (“Hobbitland”) that has distinctive triangular entrances that hide cellars stretching back into the hillsides. The two cellar rows at different ends of the village are rightly part of the World Heritage. They provide perfect conditions for storing wines, and the outside is often covered in wild flowers like thyme.
