One of my favourite Hungarian words, “szőlő”, means grape, vine and even vineyard, so the name of this event is a little tricky to translate. So which to plump for? Perhaps “Vine love”? Or rather “Love grapes”? “Love of the Vineyard”? “Love the vineyard, its vines and their grapes?” Most likely guests here will experience all these feelings at this informal event, at the time of the flowering vine, the first in a series with one every season.
Treats in store for guests in June include vineyard walk and wine tasting, guest winemaker Pál Rókusfalvy from Etyek, food delights by Anyukám mondta, and music from Melounge. This exclusive yet informal event will be held in Kakas vineyard, based around the superb terrace that looks over the vineyards and Great Hungarian Plain over to Tokaj hill, is just outside Bodrogkeresztúr.
Price includes wine tastings, walks and dinner. In the event of rain, a wine tasting will be held at their Tokaj winery, starting at 5 pm.
All the income from the day will be donated to the Tokaj Foundation (HU: Tokaj Alapítvány). Indeed, there is also the opportunity to donate 100 000 HUF as a supporter to assist in their creative initiatives. One of which is to establish a statue park in Tokaj, to commemorate those who contributed to the development of the Tokaj wine region. The first statue will be of József Szabó, the geologist who specialised in volcanic activity in the Carpathian basin and who created the first detailed geological map of the wine region 150 years ago. To celebrate this, Tokaj Foundation will reprint a quality copy this year.
Update – 4th June – all tickets sold.
