Presentation of MOC/MDOC wines and thematic tasting of 2022, 2023 Aszú samples followed by dinner, not only with Mád winemakers organised by Mád Circle for association members and wine professionals. Invitation only. Details coming on their website: www.madikor.hu/rendezvenye.
This tasting is part of a larger celebration of Pope St Urban whose cult is being revived in the Tokaj Wine Region where his relics lie. They were taken ceremoniously through the region for a few years until replicas were created to avoid damage. Grape growing and winemaking have accompanied humanity throughout history. In Hungary the Mongol invasion and much later phylloxera devasted not only the vines but also the culture of the region. And many of these rich folk traditions are being revived.
Most of the main events are held in Mád, but other towns and villages also celebrate and on the Saturday events in Monok, Tarcal, Tokaj and Bodrogkisfalud moving through Erdőbénye, Olaszliszka, Sárospatak and Hercegkút on Sunday before its return to Monok. The followwing cellars are open: Árvay (Rátka), Béres (Erdőbénye), Gróf Degenfeld (Tarcal), the world heritage cellar row in Hercegkút, Patricius (Bodrogkisfalud), Kikelet (Tokaj), Tokaj Nobilis (Bodrogkeresztúr).
