Experience a rare side of Hungarian museums as they open the night of 20th June! Torchlit castles, wine bars in galleries, jumping over fire! Events throughout the region, indeed the country on this Night of the Museums (Hu: Múzeumok Éjszakája).
The two main centres in Sárospatak are both in the castle district: the Castle itself and around the gallery/St Elisabeth House.
The Castle – gate opens at 7.15 pm
All night – star gazing from the Red Tower, archery, lead figure pouring, handcrafts and more
The events:
7.45 pm – Little Red Riding Hood puppet performance
8.25 pm – The Bewitched Prince fairy tale
9.35 pm – Wines, songs, puppets
10.20 Balázs Beliczai – comedian
10.45 pm fire jumping in the castle garden
11.10 folk dance house for all to join in
The gallery and St Elisabeth House
At the other end of the castle district the superb Sárospataki Képtár gallery has an evening wine terrace with Karádi-Berger wines all evening and guided tour of the museum with a glass of Tokaji Aszú wine at 9 and 11 pm. The Romanesque rotunda in front of the Basilica has a “fashion show” of medieval clothes at 7 pm followed by a concert at 7.45 pm by Miskolc Régizene Együttes playing medieval music. And the women at St Elisabeth House (Szent Erzsébet Ház) will be using their collection of Hostia presses to make a stunning variety of the sacramental wafers from 7 pm, with herbal tea tasting from 9.45 pm. All events are free.
