Two nights, two museums, double programme!
As part of the national series of Midsummer open museums the Tokaj museums will also be open late into the evening. The World Heritage Wine Museum on Friday, Tokaj Museum on Saturday!
24th June – World Heritage Wine Museum – Világörökségi Bormúzeum (Serház u. 55.)
19.00 – doors open
– “from cellar to attic” museum tour, including areas usually closed to visitors
– chocolate and jam tasting
– play area (traditional games and toys – not only for little ones)
21.00 – procession
– Hórihorgas Hujákolók stilt performers in front of the Wine Museum through Tokaj’s main square and to the banks of the river Bodrog
– lighting of Midsummer night fires
21.30 – SzabadtáncMívesek Hungarian and Eastern Europe folk dance and traditions
– dance
– fire jumping
25th June – Tokaji Múzeum (Bethlen Gábor u. 7.)
19.00 – doors open
– opening of folk craft exhibition of weaver Szegedi K. Alice Torella
– salon music and wine tasting in the salon
– cauldron pot cooking in the museum garden
In celebration of St John’s Eve (Szent Iván éjszakája) and close to the summer solstice, the museums of Hungary open their doors after hours for the Night of the Museums. And in Tokaj it’s – perhaps understandably;) – all about wine!
