The 2016 calendar of events is rapidly filling up – like the bunch of grapes after it has flowered – and the main festivals are already in the diary! So, it’s easy to plan your visit to our wonderful wine region. Throughout the year we’ll be adding other events as they are planned – from wine tastings and gastro tours to concerts, bike, boat and running races. But the main ones are up already!

Obviously what we like is a personal choice, but these are the ones that really get me excited…

April
Great Tokaj Wine Auction – contemporary Tokaji wines go under the hammer

May
Whit weekend in Sárospatak – a double dose of medieval magic from St Elisabeth to a battle re-enactment

Saint Urban’s Day – with ecclesiastic and secular celebrations in Mád and throughout the region

June

Good Night! Mád – with top jazz, fusion, world musicians in open cellars and gardens, great gastro

July

Crescendo – as inspired and aspiring young musicians gather to learn together

August – is packed with top events!

Zemplén Festival – celebrates 25 years of bringing great jazz, classical and world music throughout the region

Bor, Mámor, Bénye – chill out and experience top wines, food and artists in winemaker’s gardens

Sárospatak Wine Terrace – enjoy wine from the good winemakers of the town at concerts every night

Furmint Festival, Mád – village festival meets top wine tasting

All Saints’ Merriment, Bodrogkeresztúr – not yet confirmed…

Plus, of course, being the market lover I am… Tokaj-Hegyalja Market – a regular guest on the second Sunday of every month

This artisan market which has become a wonderful meeting place indeed will celebrate its fourth birthday in April. Locals and visitors alike enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the market at the Sárga Borház restaurant where you can discover a great range of artisan products made by people from the county: quality cheeses, smoked meats and fish, honey, jams and vinegars, cakes and organic fruit juices, and of course al manner of handcrafts. Plus live music, wine tastings, book presentations and other events as well as the chance to explore the stunning Disznókő vineyard.

Dates in 2016: 14th February, 13th March, 10th April, 8th May, 12th June, 10th July, 14th August, 11th September, 9th October, 13th November, 11th December

Because of the top quality products and the great atmosphere, several smaller festivals always set their dates to coincide meaning a great weekend which is easy to plan.
