The faces of the Tokaji Dukát

Prominent figures in Hungarian history linked to the Tokaj wine region are depicted on the new local currency – from Zsuzsanna Lorántffy (to whom the first Aszú was presented by Szepsy Laczkó Máté back in the 17th century) to author Ferenc Kazinczy, the great 19th-century reformer of the Hungarian language. And, on the reverse, scenes from our wine region which has belonged to the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage since 2002. From the “hobbit-like” cellars of Hercegkút to Sárospatak Castle, the synagogue in Tokaj and the Town Hall in Sátoraljaújhely.
